CVS Guide – How to Get ECBs and “Roll” ECBs

card_3This guide will tell you about ECBs, how to get them and how to “roll” your ECBs from one transaction to the next. I personally didn’t jump onto the CVS Extracare band-wagon until my local Longs converted to CVS – and it’s been awesome. According to my receipts, I spend around $12.5 for $488 worth of items, and it’s only been 2 months :) . See the official CVS coupon policy!

What are Extracare Bucks (ECBs?)

  • They’re coupons with nominal values, like CVS money, that you get at the end of the receipts with eligible purchases. You can use those for another transaction – even on the same day. Remember to use your ECBs before the expiration date, usually in 2-3 weeks.

How do I Earn ECB?

  • You earn ECBs when you purchase items from the weekly ad which give you back ECBs, get 2% back with every purchase in-store and online, and 1 ECB for every 2 prescriptions.

What’s the Procedure for Getting the ECB?

  • First, you have to sign up for an Extracare card either online, or at the store (preferred, since you’ll get the card on the spot!). To get your ECBs 1. Give the cashiers your ECB card. 2. At the end of the transaction, your ECB will print at the end of the receipt. Cut them out, and save it for the next transaction. Note the expiry dates.
  • ForĀ each of the ECB deal, there’s a limit to how many you could do per household. Check the weekly store circular for that particular deal. It would say “limit 1″, “limit 3″, etc.

Just like the Rite Aid Rebate program, when combined with manufacturer’s coupons and store sales, you’ll get some GREAT deals!

How to “Roll” CVS ECBs?

If you’re like me, sometimes forgetting that I had too many expiring ECBs that I haven’t used, you might want to plan your trips to “roll” your ECBs. Here’s what you do to limit the ECBs you have left over:

  • Break one shopping trip into multiple transactions, so that you can use the ECBs you got from the 1st transaction for the 2nd transaction, and so on. To minimize work/time on yours and the cashier’s part :) , try to do no more than 3 transactions in a trip. See this post for an example on how this is done.
