Every time I went to the Sacramento Farmers Market I noticed something different, which didn’t mean they weren’t there before, it just means that there are so many stands that I can’t notice them all at one trip! And we’ve been there at least once a month for the past few years now. I learned something new, too.
Something interesting:
Fitzpatrick Winery: The wine maker himself, Brian Fitzpatrick was there (left, the guy with glasses), even his photo from this website was apparently taken at the Sacramento Farmers Market under their tent! They use organic grapes.
Crimini Mushroom is known as “Baby Portobellas”: Note their sign actually said “not certified organic”. I do feel for the small farmers that even though their farming practice IS organic, they could not afford to go through the labor/paper intensive organic certification process, unlike the industrial type organic farms.
My Take: I’d still support them. “Local, pretty much organic, you get to interact with the growers every week and ask questions”. Just being there at the Farmers Market, asking questions, showing that we care about their farming practices and understand their limitations as small family owned farms helps.
Or get organic produce delivered by your community supported farm
