This month’s thrift find is the limited edition Imperial Jing De Zhen/Ching-te Chen (景德镇) porcelain collector plate, the first plate, “Pao-Chai” (寶釵) (literally Precious hair pin) is the name of one of the main female character from the classical romantic novel, Dream of Red Chamber (红楼梦). By Master Artisan Zhao Huimin (赵惠民). Exquisitely hand-drawn, from 1986, China. (part of the 12-plate “Beauties of the Red Mansion” collection)
In original box with Certification of Authenticity. Numbered and signed.
I’m normally not a collector person but this definitely caught my eye – and I couldn’t bear to leave it at the store, since I do know some history of these plates myself. There were not as few of these as you might have thought – since these were exported to the States, Canada and Europe in the eighties, during the new economic growth period from China.
Brought for $8 (cost bet. $20-$70 per plate from my research). From the ever great SPCA thrift store!
