I Made Money at Safeway Today and you could too! Fruit Snacks Deal Illustrated

by Lee on January 21, 2010 · 10 comments

This is the transaction that I did at the S. Davis Safeway, using one computer, with the catalina and receipt scans. Total for the two transaction: 12 FREE boxes of fruit snacks and made $2.3. See the Safeway Fruit Snacks and others Deal post for more info. See tips at end of post. See other money making trips!

You could maximize your savings with the $0.4/1 coupon for fruit shapes and buy multiples of (5), such that you got the $3.5 catalina with just the right number. I just found it easier to do it this way.

For the Locals: I generally found the staff at the S. Davis store more friendly (in general, and more coupon friendly) than the W. Davis store, and I’ve never had problems of catalinas not printing at S. Davis. The checkout lady was extremely nice and let me do to 2 transactions, and that made my day! I brought other items but this post is just to illustrate the power of coupon, sales and catalinas!

First Transaction:

Buy (6) boxes of fruit snacks $6 (they were originally $2. remember to add (2) more buy 4, save $4 items to get them for $1)
-$1/2 Fruit Snacks printable coupon
-$1/2 Fruit Snacks printable coupon
-$0.5/2 Fruit Snacks newspaper coupon
Total e-coupons from cellfire and shortcut (circled)
.5 for Fruit Foot
.4 x 2 for Fruit Snacks
.5 x 2 for Mouth Mixers
Total e-coupons = $2.3
Total paid = $1.2
Get back $3.5 catalina, made $2.3 for this transaction

Second Transaction:

Buy (6) boxes of fruit snacks $6 (add (2) more buy 4, save $4 items to get them for $1)
-$1/2 Fruit Snacks printable coupon
-$1/2 Fruit Snacks printable coupon
-$0.5/2 Fruit Snacks newspaper coupon
Total paid = $3.5 (used the catalina from Transaction #1)
Get back $3.5 catalina (see picture). Everything FREE

**Tips**
1. Use the high valued $1/2 coupons
2. Have 5 or 6 fruit snack boxes in one transaction to maximize the catalina
3. Make sure to have multiples of (4) eligible items for the buy 4, save $4 deal to work! The oatmeal, cereals are only $0.5 after coupons (check store tags, they should have the buy4 for $4 tags).
4. Load all the e-coupons into your club card – don’t spend too much time figuring out which fruit snacks is which.
5. Make sure to match the paper coupons with the appropriate products (fruit snacks-roll-ups etc, or fruit shapes?) when you take them for the shelves

I’ve covered all I could think of..let me know if you have questions!

I’m assuming you bought more items that are part of the promo because the discount comes off in quantities of 4. Just buying 6 would cause 4 of them to be $1, and the other 2 would be regular price at $2 each.

Sorry, you fixed it! I just hadn’t refreshed the page from earlier!

What’s a catalina? How do you load coupons on your club card? What’s a $1/2 coupon?

A ‘Catalina’ is a coupon that prints after your transaction. Sometimes they randomly print (like at Target – $.50 off one cafe item) or you have to ‘qualify’ for it by buying a specific number/types of products (like in Lee’s Safeway scenarios). Hope this helps. OH, and $1/2 is the same as a coupon for $1 off two items. Is that what you meant? :)

Ashley: Yes, I have get into the habit of making sure everything is right before I hit the “post” button! :)

cjs: thanks so much for chiming in!

Tina: To load coupons into your club card, go to
1. cellfire.com (see stores http://www.cellfire.com/deals.php enter zip)
2. shortcuts.com (see stores http://shortcuts.com/stores)
and create an account with your Safeway (and affiliates) club card.

So when you say to use the -.50/2 newspaper coupon – one would have to had cut it out of the newpaper or else they are out of luck? Is this because the printed coupon states “One coupon per purchase of specified product”?

9 tina January 27, 2010 at 6:58 pm

oh wait, never mind. I think I printed the -.50/2 newspaper coupon that you’re referring to from coupons.com.

tina – yes you can get the .5/2 coupon either from the newspaper or printed online, though remember you can only use on manufacturer’s paper coupon on the same item(s).
