Safeway $4 Challenge (11 packages of snacks)

by Lee on January 7, 2010 · 3 comments

This is my experience today at Safeway. The Nature Valley deal worked perfectly, but the catalina didn’t print for the Nabisco. Not sure why – I might call Catalina at 1-888-8coupon or 1-888-826-8766 (though IMO, $3 is not worth the trouble..). See the Safeway Deal post for this week for links to printable coupons.

(1) Nature Valley Granola Bars $2.5 each, (4) Nut Clusters $2.5 each
Total = $12.5
-$0.4 NV Granola Bar
-$1 NV Nut Clusters x 4
-$0.4 NV Nut Clusters ecoupons
-$4 from Super price Safeway coupon
Tip: If you buy at least (1) NV Granola Bar the super priced coupon should work with both the bars and clusters (it did for me, at the Davis store)
Get back $3.5 catalina coupon
Total = $0.2 for 4 NV Nut Clusters, 1 NV Granola Bar!

(5) Nabisco 100 Calories pack, $2 each
Total = $10
-$1.5 peelies x 5
Total = $2.5 for 5
Note: A $3 catalina was supposed to print, making it FREE but heck $0.5 a package is still steal. Also I forgot to load the Safeway.com e-coupon for $1/2 (reminder to self: don’t blame yourself too much)
Note: $1.5 peelies (thanks Ashley!) are on the Sweet & Salty Kettle Mix, Chips Ahoy Fudge Drizzled Cookies or Double Chocolate Chip Cookies packages, and applicable only on those.

Kraft Singles Cheese $3.99
-$2.5 Super price Safeway coupon
-$0.5 SS 1/3
Total = $0.99

Total cost of all that good snacks: $3.7 (less than the price of a Venti Latte, can you tell that I’m a Starbucks gal), retails for $26.5, saved over 85%.

My catalina didn’t print today either. Oh well. I didn’t make out as well, but I got my Wheat Thins for $1 a box. Can’t beat that. Thanks for all the the deals.

I sent Laurie with a pile of coupons and directions to get the cereal and granola bars from Safeway. She got 8 boxes of the bars with the 2, 4 for 6$ coupon. They some how took off 4.00$ PER A BOX, then I had 2 .40 coupons also that registered. The cereal coupons worked well but the club saving on the cereal getting them to about 1.50 a box before coupons did not register. Laurie got 12 boxes. We did not figure this out until she got home. So all in all we came out ahead with 8, 4$ off deductions labeled as for Nature Valley granola bars. Who knows!

Ona, if you’re saying that your Safeway took off $4 per $2.5 Nature Valley Box, tell me which store was it and I’ll be there in a minute..lol! That might be something the cashier absentmindedly entered. That made up for the cereals..if not for the $4 off already I’d talk to the cashier about it, or maybe the cashier just didn’t get to scan the coupon – I try to keep track of the coupons from the screen when they’re scanning but sometimes it’s hard since it goes by so quickly.
