Free UC Davis Department Music Master Class Today and Tomorrow: Violin

by Lee on January 22, 2010

As part of UC Davis Music Department’s Violin Festival, there are free master classes open to the public: See their calendar for more info:
(both located at Vanderhoef Studio Theatre, Mondavi Center)

Fri, January 22, 11am – 1pm: Fritz Gearhart, violin, dedicated chamber musician, soloist, and instructor at the University of Oregon School of Music & Dance.

Sat, January 23, 11am – 1pm: Jaap Schröder, Dutch violinist with a distinguished career in performing, conducting, recording, particularly with European orchestras and chamber ensembles.

What’s a master class? It’s a teaching session with an accomplished musician (e.g. Yo-Yo-Ma) with music students, and the session is open to the public. My son and I attended one by Leon Fleisher, accomplished pianist and conductor.

I’d recommend the Saturday one (free parking on campus!). I’ve checked with TAPS, they usually don’t charge for parking unless it’s a ticketed Mondavi event, and there will be attendants if they’re charging.
