Wicked Lottery
Went to a girl’s day out and saw WICKED at San Francisco’s Orpheum Theatre, and got $99 orchestra seats for only $25. Here’s how:
1. Plan for a matinee time instead of a busy weekend night show. We were there for a Saturday matinee in the afternoon and still got the discounted ticket. See times HERE
2. Participate in the Wicked Lottery. A limited number of $25 “partial limited view” orchestra side seats are available on the day of the show, for EVERY performance of Wicked at the Orpheum Theatre (I believe these seats cannot be sold normally, so they have to be lottery out). Maximum 2 tickets per person, cash only.
- Get there 2.5 hours prior to each performance, and place your name in the WICKED lottery at the box office. E.g. if you’re there for the 2PM Saturday show, get there at 11:30 AM. IMPORTANT TIP: If you’re going with a friend make sure to put down (2) tickets for your lottery. If both you and your friend won, one of you can forfeit the tickets with no penalty. TIP 1: The theatre is only a short walk from Union Square shopping district and one BART station away. TIP 2: There’s a Starbucks right across the street, so we waited there for 20 minutes before the lottery
- 2 hours prior to each performance, staff will start the lottery. Winners must be present (with valid photo ID) and purchase the tickets immediately with cash. No reselling of lottery tickets!
My experience: there were more than enough lottery tickets for everyone who were there, and this fact is apparent when we enter the theater – more than 20 empty seats at the side orchestra section, while the rest of the theater, including the upper sections were FULL! Apparently many people were not willing to take their chance, or don’t know about the lottery. I talked to a few present at the lottery, and many were repeated patrons of the show (at $25 it’s SOOOO worth it). The Wicked Broadway show has been going on for more than a couple years at San Francisco, so that means many people may have already seen it. ALSO the staff told us that even if you’re not a winner, they have other “discount options” for those present for the lottery!
Local Tibits: Teal Wicks, as Elphaba is absolutely AMAZING, and she’s a Sacramento native!
