If you’ve been following my blog you’d have a closet/garage full of snacks, cereals and toiletories by now, paying no more than a few dollars. Besides monetary donations, here’re some ways on how you could help those who are less fortunate or local organizations by donating your surplus:
- Homeless: Give some of your surplus to, for example a homeless man for tiding up for the holidays.
- Food Banks: Read this inspiring story on how a child giving a pack of cookies to the hungry made the world a better place.
- Blood Glucose Meter: Donate free glucose meters to local charities.
- Fruit Surplus: If you have trees overflowing with winter fruits such as persimmon, contact local churches or food co-op for where to donate. Village Harvest collects fruits in Davis, see the Davis Enterprise article.
- Thrift Stores: Donate to non-profit thrift stores, such as my favorite one.
- Library: Donate free or cheap magazines to your library.
- Schools: Teachers always appreciate back-up snacks in the classroom.
- Last but not least, freecycle what you don’t need
What are some of your ways to help in this season of love and giving?
