Sacramento Farmers Market Fall Bounty ($4/flat Organic Eggs)

by Lee on October 25, 2009

asian pearThis week is P&P (pear and persimmon) week. As always, the fabulous Sacramento Sunday Farmers Market under the freeway is packed. There is a reason why major Sacramento chefs, such as Patrick Mulvaney, are regulars. I felt that I could keep writing about this place – so many vendors and such variety! See a previous post.

Asian pear – all types, from a farm at Placerville. Priced at $1.5/lb and towards the end of the market it’s reduced to $1.0/lb. I was eating the green type, “Dynasty” and oh so satisfying-perfect sweetness and crunchiness.

Persimmon – from $0.75/lb to $1.0/lb

Apples – $1.25/lb (conventional) to $2.0/lb (organic). Nugget’s cheaper this week.

Honey: If you buy any kind of local honey, you’ll know “Lienert’s Honey”. The Lienert guys were at the market selling. My kids love the honey stick – 10 for a dollar, cheaper than what the local produce stands around here are selling.

Eggs: $4 for a flat. That’s 2.5 dozen eggs. Where else could you get a dozen organic eggs for $1.6?
