UC Davis’s music department routinely hosts FREE classical concerts, ranges from piano to sopranos, to cellos. The free noon concerts occur every Thursday from Sept 24 through December, and venues range from the premier concert hall Mondavi Center to on-campus music buildings. See HERE for more details. For venues parking information, see HERE. All parking is $6 for the entire day – might make a campus tour out of it too? The next one coming up is Oct. 15 by Genevieve Lee, piano.
If you have a budding musician at home, this would be a great way to introduce him/her to classical music. Research has shown that listening to music performed in person has a greater effect on the brain than just the music itself. (I’m pretty sure that I read it in Freakonomics, but I might be wrong..)
TIP: you might be able to park at the Borders Parking lot and walk to Mondavi, and than park for free, but I haven’t tried it before. Let me know if you’ve actually walk/run this route!
