I just tried to use 2 coupons ($2/1 and $1/1) on the Natures Bounty Fish Oil and the cashier said I could only use one coupon because the second fish oil was already free. She said it was CVS policy not to use a coupon on an already free item. Any suggestions?

According to CVS’s coupon policy (each store should have one), you’re allowed to use two manufacturer’s coupon on a B1G1 free items, and also one manufacturer’s coupon on CVS’s B1G1 free sale (hence getting both items for free, only paying taxes). The machine will take the coupon without beeping. However, each store is still free to make their own policy. I knew for a fact that CVS don’t like to advertise their policies in writing to the public…
In your situation, I’d ask to speak to a manager to confirm this “policy” the cashier told you, and asked him/her to check their coupon policy they should have in-store, but I won’t fight it – there are many times where stores (even managers) don’t know their own corporate policy, even though they insisted they do. When I tried to inform them of their own coupon policies, many times I’d hear “I’ve worked in (store name) for x no. of years and I don’t need you to tell me how to do my job”, etc. etc. It’s not worth the hassle IMO. Just chose another register checker next time, or ask for a manger to clarify the coupon policy b4 your purchase, if you’re in doubt. You can also call corporate to clarify their coupon policy, and give them the store location that gave you problems. I’ve tried this with the Target in Woodland and got an apology from their store manager afterwords!

Though EVERY store I’ve walked into lately has gotten so much better at dealing with customers using coupons-in this economic times more and more stores and customers are realizing the value of coupons. But Sacramento (if you’re in the area) is still one of the areas with the least coupon redemption rates so they’re still working on it.
