In my town, coupons use is not widespread-hence the constant comments I got from cashiers on “wow, how’d save that much?” I hear the following from people all the time – so now I’m going to debunk each of them : )

Myths #1: there is never a coupon for things that I actually buy! One the contrary, most people will use some products where there are coupons for, such as toothpastes, shampoo, sunscreen, cleaning products, etc. However, you do have to let go of brand loyalty. If you only stick with several brands, you’re unlikely to get the best deal. But ain’t store brands the cheapest, you ask? Store brands are usually the cheapest if you pay retail, but if you’re using coupons, a lot of times the major brands will come out cheaper than store brands.

Myth #2: Coupons for food are for junk and processed food only: it is true that many coupons are for those types of food, but coupons for healthy food such as yogurt, frozen and canned vegetables are plentiful, too.

Myth #3: You can’t save much with coupons. The truth is you cannot expect to have a coupon for everything on your shopping list. But there are excellent deals in many items. The key is to stock up on the best deals, and use the money you save on things such as fresh produce, or meat. You can save even more if you stack in-store coupons in their weekly circular with manufacturer’s coupons, and also, use two of the same coupons on buy one get one free items.

Do you use coupons? What are your feelings towards coupon use?
