Budget Updates – August 09

by Lee on September 18, 2009

I’m very proud of ourselves this month – we really strived to save on our groceries, and we succeeded!

Our groceries went from $530 in June, $380 in July, to $280 in August! Woohoo! That’s only $70/week for a family of 4 (and our family consumed a ton of produce everyday).

I attribute the success to the following:

  • Stockpiles we had since I started couponing/RiteAiding/CVSing, and from all the back-to-school savings
  • Compare fruits and vegetables prices, while at the same time support local farmers (living in California, one of the largest producers in the nation, during harvest season doesn’t hurt either)

One notable point is we’ve drastically decreased our eating out times (it’s become more of a luxury than necessity), and yet we still achieved the lower grocery bills. We have also been using restaurant coupons when we do eat out.
